The Greville Tapes Music Club offers a look behind the scenes at one of three recent recording sessions with this new teaser video featuring Sadie and Designosaur’s superb interpretation of the Eric’s Trip classic, Behind the Garage.
Earlier this week we shared some news about the Greville Tapes Music Club and the forthcoming releases/live dates featuring Coco Collins (NS) and Indigo Poirier (NB), Sadie (NB) and Designosaur (NS), and Tooth & the Fang (NB) and Marian (NB). And today we get to take a brief look at one of these three pairings, live in the studio.
“The original idea for the Greville Tapes Music Club included every artist pairing doing an iconic song from New Brunswick musical history,” said GTMC founder Peter Rowan. “But the reality of the situation in terms of COVID-19 and how that affected scheduling made it impossible. Thankfully, Sadie and Designosaur had this one more or less ready to rip.”
Behind the Garage is the opening track on Eric’s Trip’s 1993 debut full-length album Love Tara which also served as their debut for Sub-Pop Records.
Rowan managed Eric’s Trip around the time this song was originally released and says the decision to release this song as a video-only promo for the forthcoming series of Greville Tapes Music Club releases was to pay homage to one of the region’s most storied ensembles and help bring some additional attention to the project.
“The sad reality is that releasing twelve new songs will generate some attention, but tying in a familiar cover will add to that,” he said. “That’s just the nature of cover songs on the internet. So I see it as both a marketing decision and a tip of the hat to one of the greatest bands ever, let alone from New Brunswick.”
