Mike Humble & Drake Adams Team up for Fall House Concert Tour
“House shows are such a great way to get close and personal with an audience,” says Mike Humble. “A silent room, friends seated on cushions on the floor, tea brewing on the stove, this atmosphere really allows stories to come to life. This is exactly the kind of show that songwriters excel at and audiences come away with a better understanding of the songs and the performers.”
Humble is about to embark on a ten-date tour performing house concerts throughout New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with fellow New Brunswick musician Drake Adams. A regular on the summer festival circuit and an organizer of FollyFest, Humble is no stranger to performing in the intimate setting of a friend’s kitchen or living room.
“I have played lots of house shows with Owen Steel,” he said. “My first was in 2009 opening for Old Man Luedecke. It was my first time seeing him and it was such a great atmosphere. I’ve played and hosted house shows ever since and it’s easily my favourite way to see a singer songwriter or to present my own music.”
Nearly everyone from the Maritimes has a story about being at a party where music breaks out in some way, shape or form. There is magic in those moments and with the rise of house concert touring networks like Acoustic Roof and HomeRoots.ca, it would appear more and more people are tuning into the idea of opening their homes and sharing an evening of music with friends and music lovers alike.
“This tour is just an extension of the awesome festival scene here in the Maritimes,” said Humble. “All these houses are festival friends and the folks that are going to come out are festival friends. When the summer is over its kind of a letdown but shows like these give us the chance to reconnect in a much more intimate setting.”
