The Indigenous led dance company Red Sky Performance begins an east coast tour this week with performances in Miramichi, Fredericton and Saint John.
Since its creation in 2000, Red Sky Performance have been touring original works of contemporary dance to audiences around the world. Driven by a specific desire to create, elevate, and evolve contemporary Indigenous performance, Red Sky have delivered over 2,700 performances across Canada including international performances in 17 countries on four continents, including two Cultural Olympiads (Beijing and Vancouver), World Expo in Shanghai, Venice Biennale, and Jacob’s Pillow, among others.
The company’s latest creation, Trace, arrives in New Brunswick this week with performances in Miramichi, Fredericton and Saint John. Red Sky Performance describes the show as being, “a highly kinetic dance about all things traceable. Trace maps our Anishinaabe sky and star stories, offering a glimpse into our origin and our future evolution.”
The show has already earned two Dora Mavor Moore Awards (Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Sound Design & Composition) and was nominated for four others.
