Chinese New Year Gala

CCANB-552x1024The Chinese Cultural Association of New Brunswick (CCANB) will be hosting its Annual Gala for the Chinese Lunar New Year (the year of golden sheep) and the main theme for the Gala is “Maple Leaf on Silk Road”. It will demonstrate the everlasting history of the business trade and culture exchange between China and other countries in the world. It will also showcase the multicultural spirit in Canada, symbolized by the maple leaf in our new home. With traditional Chinese folk dances, instruments and songs this will be a great opportunity to come and enjoy the richness of Chinese culture.

Good Lovelies and Old Man Luedecke

GoodLoveliesOML-300x194Funny and upbeat with just a pinch of sass, the Good Lovelies’ three-part harmonies, constant instrument swapping and witty stage banter have enlivened the folk music landscape since they joined forces in 2006. The artists behind this Toronto trio (Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore) excel at combining lighthearted songwriting with their irresistibly buoyant dispositions for a blithe brand of folk music that has universal appeal. goodlovelies.com

Based in Chester, N.S., Old Man Luedecke has a cunning lyrical flair, tenderly pushing the boundaries of storytelling with a unique mix of folk, bluegrass and pop hooks. This Juno-winning performer creates narrative-driven folk songs that are playful, coy and soul-warming. He’ll have you hanging on his every word. oldmanluedecke.ca

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith with very special guest Hayden

DanManganBlacksmith_CreditNormanWong1-300x200After a two year hiatus, an induction into fatherhood, and some time to regroup, two-time JUNO Award-winner Dan Mangan has returned under a new moniker, Dan Mangan + Blacksmith. The new name encompasses the spirit of the project’s longstanding ensemble members joining the band from Vancouver’s experimental music community, Kenton LoewenGordon GrdinaJohn Walsh (and often Jesse ZubotJP carter and Tyson Naylor) with a communal sensibility that merits the marquee amendment.

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith recently announced the January 13 release of its new studio album Club Meds. Prior to that, the two time JUNO-Award Winner and Polaris Music Prize Shortlisted artist debuted “Vessel” the lead single from its upcoming album and a part of the soundtrack for Simon Pegg’s indie film Hector And The Search For Happiness.

Produced by Colin Stewart and Dan Mangan, Club Meds at times evokes images of subtler American-underground innovators like Blonde Redhead or Steve Reich. At other moments, it hits emotional pay dirt reminiscent of British scene-survivors like Peter Gabriel or Radiohead.  Blacksmith brings an unmistakable character to Club Meds; a stark glassy edge that swells and sways like a roaring ocean. Through a fog of analog feedback loops and synths, the band’s performances breathe deeply and steadily like a dragon at rest.

Rogers Backstage Bash

Playhouse-Backstage-Bash-Poster-PRINT-674x1024The Rogers Backstage Bash, presented by Fredericton International Airport, isn’t your average evening at the Fredericton Playhouse. One of the hottest events of the winter is returning to the stage on Saturday, February 21, 2015.

For this special fundraising event, we flip everything around – rather than sitting quietly in your seats, we invite guests to join us backstage for an unforgettable evening featuring the Mellotones, an amazing nine-piece, high energy R&B funk band. Performing from a specially constructed stage placed over the seats of the Playhouse, the Mellotones will set the mood for a night of phenomenal entertainment and food, both onstage and backstage!

This is the only fundraising event held by the Fredericton Playhouse, with proceeds supporting our education and outreach programming including our School Field Trips program and the Arts are for Everyone access program.

So polish your dancing shoes and join us backstage!  Tickets are limited.
