Local Art Teacher Confident in Your Ability.

Loretta M.w-c

Mike Mesheau believes we all have artistic abilities, although some of us simply haven’t realize it…yet.

“For a long time I used to hear people talking about how they couldn’t draw or they couldn’t paint,” said Mesheau. “I always thought that if drawing and painting started off in grade one as a subject and was taught like reading and writing are taught, everyone who can now read and write would be able to draw and paint. With this in mind, I decided I would start teaching adults who would like to learn how.”

Mesheau is a former art teacher with over 35 years of experience in the public school system helping students of all ages discover their hidden abilities as artists and has been teaching art fundamentals to the public for a number of years.

“A lot of people seem to think that artistic ability has to be innate. You’re either born with the skill or you’re not,” he said.  “That’s always bothered me because we weren’t born with the ability to read and write either. Those are skills we were taught.”

Mesheau will be offering two six-week courses designed specifically for later beginners, starting in mid-October. His courses are “designed specifically for adults who have had very little or no previous visual art instruction. I like to start everyone off on an even playing field.”

Evening courses in drawing and water colour will take place at the Fredericton High School (details below).

“I think art enriches our lives, big time. I think what I enjoy most is seeing people do something that for years thought they didn’t have the ability to do.”
