Black Flag and D.O.A are coming to Fredericton. For real.

Following an impressive first year lineup that saw international touring acts The Ripcordz, The Queers, and Teenage Bottle Rocket topping a long list of of regional punks bands to gather in Fredericton for a weekend of all things punk rock, Punkocalypse returns for a new year with the announcement of headliners Black Flag and D.O.A., two of the most influential North American punk bands of all time.

Vancouver’s D.O.A. have visited Fredericton several times over the past 40 years. The band, still led by founder Joey “Shithead” Keithly was originally announced for the festival’s inaugural year in 2023, but had to back out due to a health issue.

Black Flag formed in Hermosa Beach, California in 1976, releasing some of punk’s most influential singles and albums before breaking up in 1986. The band reformed in 2013. The current lineup features original guitarist and founder Greg Ginn and pro skater Mike Valley on vocals.

Amongst a long list of influential actions and recordings, Black Flag and D.O.A are both credited by many for establishing a network of North American venues and promoters that would become the template for an entire generation of touring musicians. Nice to see Black Flag finally add Fredericton to the list. It only took 48 years.

Punkocalypse runs the last weekend of June. Tickets and more details available here
