Legendary performer Darlene Love kicks off the holiday season at The Fredericton Playhouse.
The Fredericton Playhouse kicks off the holiday season with a concert by legendary vocal performer Darlene Love, a singer whose career spans nearly 50 years of chart topping hit songs.
Love’s career began as a background vocalist with the Blossoms, performing with the likes of Tom Jones, the Righteous Brothers, Dionne Warwick, Marvin Gaye and Elvis Presley. She has also contributed background vocals to such timeless hits as Da Doo Ron Ron and Monster Mash. In many ways, her contribution to popular music is not unlike that of The Funk Brothers or The Wrecking Crew – ever present and underrated.
While she has had several hit songs of her own including Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), a song she performed annually for 30 years on The Late Show with David Letterman, her story and her voice where given some major (and long overdue) exposure in the 2014 Oscar-winning documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, a film highlighting the important and often overlooked contributions by background vocalists in shaping some of the biggest songs in recent history.
Love was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011 and Rolling Stone Magazine named her one of the top 100 Greatest Vocalist. She truly is a living legend.
