Spearhead Theatre is partnering with local businesses to support Australian bush fire relief.
In light of the devastating bushfires that have been waging in Australia since September of 2019, Spearhead Theatre has decided to team up with local businesses and give back.
Although Spearhead Theatre is first and foremost a theatre company, Artistic Director Kelly McAllister knew they had to do something to help.
“I think a lot of people have this idea of ‘well, what can I do? I’m on the other side of the world’ or ‘I’m only one person’, but I believe in doing your part and leading by example,” says McAllister. “I am an artist, and so what I can do is create art, or collaborate with other artists, and hopefully raise some money to help those who are in the thick of it. We created these limited ‘Kacey the Koala’ stickers to do just that.”
The stickers were created to help support WIRES – New South Wales’ Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. WIRES has been rescuing and caring for native animals for over 30 years. Their mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same.
According to WIRES, catastrophic fires, the worst drought in history, and record high temperatures are taking a tragic toll on native wildlife; ecologists from Sydney University have estimated that over 800 million animals have been affected in Australia.
“One hundred percent of the proceeds will be going to help out the great people at WIRES. My hope is that people will see this cute sticker on someone’s computer, or bag, or notebook and ask about it, and hopefully buy their own to support WIRES!”
The ‘Kacey the Koala’ stickers are available directly from Spearhead Theatre or at The Coffee Mill, Ringo’s Bar & Grill, and the Branch Out Productions studio.
The ‘Kacey the Koala’ stickers will be available for a minimum donation of $2 until January 26th – Australia Day.
