Live Bait Theatre’s production I’m Not What I Seem: Songs and Stories of Rita MacNeil concludes its seven date summer tour with shows in Fredericton and Saint John later this month.

In 2016, Atlantic Canadian author Charlie Rhindress published a book about Rita MacNeil. I’m Not What I Seem: The Many Stories of Rita MacNeil’s Life (Formac) became a bestseller in the Maritimes. Three years later Rhindress turned the book into the live performance I’m Not What I Seem: Songs and Stories of Rita MacNeil, which went on to have a successful run with Live Bait Theatre in 2019. Live Bait brought the show back this summer for a series of shows in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The tour wraps up later the month with shows in Fredericton and Saint John.

I’m Not What I Seem: Songs and Stories of Rita MacNeil features a four-piece, all female group led by New Brunswick’s Queen of the Blues, Theresa Malenfant. Their performance will include many of MacNeil’s best-known songs as well as some of her hidden gems. Rhindress will host the evening, reading from his book and talking about his experience working with MacNeil on his play about her life, Flying On Her Own
