Brittany McQuinn recently teamed up with producer Daniel James to create the electronic music duo, Bleum, a project she describes as “dark, ethereal pop”. This week the pair released their first single, Lose You, a powerful and complex introduction by any standard.
“We started making music two years ago this month,” said McQuinn. “Daniel was creating electronic music on his own and introduced me to it and I’ve never looked back.”
Part of the initial inspiration that led to this project goes back a few years to when James produced tracks for McQuinn in 2016. One of the tracks they worked on together was named Best Out Of Province at the Toronto Independent Music Awards that same year.
“We’ve worked on over 30 songs together including those on an EP called Bold which Daniel produced and I released as a solo artist last September,” said McQuinn. “After that came out we decided to make music as a duo. We both love chill electronic music and this ethereal, sort of dark pop sound, so the songs we’ve been making as Bleum fall somewhere within those two.”
This new collaboration joins a series of ongoing projects from both artists deeply rooted in the world of electronic music.
“Daniel works as a producer with lots of artists and bands all over the East Coast and has other projects in the works,” she said. “I collaborate with DJ/producers from several countries, I’m doing a multi-collaboration project with one of them, and have my solo project as well.”
We’re already looking forward to what comes next from Bleum.
