Romi Mayes Releases New Album – Plots Huge Tour – Plays Fredericton May 29, 2015

image003Romi Mayes is proving once again that she is one of the hardest working independent musicians touring the globe today, announcing a string of tour dates from May to August. The Winnipeg singer songwriter will set out across Canada supporting her upcoming album, Devil On Both Shoulders, set for release on May 12. The album will be her 6th full-length album. Her last five albums have garnered 3 Western Canadian Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year, 2 Western Canadian Music Awards for Album of The Year, a JUNO Award nomination and various Canadian Music Award nominations.

The new video for title track “Devil On Both Shoulders” is more than just a music video to Mayes. “I wanted to use the medium as another creative outlet rather than just your average four minute selfie. I hired a lead actress, wrote the script, and assistant directed, so it’s a passion project as well. I think the song’s intent is amplified by the great cinematography of Paul MacLean.”

Together with producer Grant Siemens (Corb Lund) Mayes approached Devil On Both Shoulders from a very raw and real perspective. “His impeccable sentimentalities really brought the groove and the flow to the album,” says Mayes. “There was so much respect, trust, and commitment to the end result that we worked together flawlessly. His confidence in me as a songwriter and a singer brought out my best, and pushed me to a higher level of writing and performance.” Joined in studio by Damon Mitchell (The New Meanies, Nathan), Alexa Dirks (Chic Gamine), Bernie Thiessen (Big Dave McLean), and Marc Arnould, the result brings a new jolt to Mayes’ already powerful sound.

Known for her accessible, sweet, yet edgy vocals, Mayes changed things up for Devil On Both Shoulders, sacrificing vice for voice. “I quit smoking six months before the album recording so I was able to sing in a different way and more melodically than I had expected I would,” says Mayes. “I think it’s my best one yet.”

Mayes has relentlessly toured Canada, US, Europe, UK, and has shared the stage with the likes of Levon Helm, Derek Trucks, Ricky Skaggs, Jim Cuddy, Gordie Johnson, Guy Clark, Sue Foley, Fred Eaglesmith, Corb Lund, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, and many more.
