Fredericton FROSTival is bigger and better with over 100 events!

frostivalAlready Atlantic Canada’s largest winter celebration, FROSTival is growing bigger and better with more events than ever and some new cool offerings! This year’s celebrations include more than 100 events over four jam packed weekends from January 23 – February 15.

Entering its third year, FROSTival includes the region’s best outdoor festivals, events, and indoor cultural experiences.

“FROSTival really has something for everyone” says Stacey Russell, Fredericton Tourism. “From families, cultural enthusiasts, foodies and everyone in between, there’s a broad mix of both indoor and outdoor festivals and events to fit all needs. Plus we’re very excited for some new partner events that have been added to this year’s celebrations”.

Of those new events is the NB HopSpiel, a weekend of curling downtown in Officers’ Square which will bring history back to life in the Historic Garrison District. The NB HopSpiel, taking place February 6 & 7, includes a fun outdoor curling event made up of teams of 4 as well as a chili cook-off with downtown restaurants and craft beer offerings.

Also new for 2015, Winterfesthiver will expand to 2 weekends (February 7 & 8 and 14 & 15) at the Capital Exhibit Centre Grounds. Enjoy their famous gigantic ice slides and snow maze, dog sledding, sleigh rides, horse & pony rides, and more. New this year, enjoy hands-on activities at their new Artisans’ Winter Market and come back at night for some live entertainment at their Winterfesthiver Rocks the Night.

“This is a great initiative that comes at a time of year where Frederictonians and New Brunswickers are looking to get out of the house” says City of Fredericton Deputy Mayor Eric Meggarity. “FROSTival offers a full slate of options on things to do in the Capital City!”

What to expect this year at FROSTival:

FROSTival kicks off January 23 with the highly anticipated Shivering Songs Festival, Atlantic Canada’s best new music event which includes an impressive line up and more announcements to come . The weekend continues with a full slate of cultural activities including a comedy show, hands-on edVentures Fredericton Workshops, Old Fashioned Skating Party, Campfire Sing Alongs, a Poker Tournament, and more!

The second weekend (January 30 – February 1) is a combination of films, curling, skiing, workshops and theatre beginning with the Banff Film Festival at the Fredericton Playhouse. The greater Fredericton region will also play host to the NB Curling Provincials at the Tri County Complex. There’s a number of cultural & nightlife events including workshops, musicals, chocolate tastings, Art Battle and even a NB Beer Tour!

The family fun ramps up on weekend three (February 6-8) with the first of 2 Winterfesthiver weekends. There’s also 2 cross country skiing events, the NB HopSpiel, snowmobile racing, and SnowGa (yes, yoga in the snow) as well as a number of indoor events!

FROSTival wraps up with more family fun (February 13-15) starting with the return of Winterfesthiver as well as Oromocto Snowfest. There’s also lots a full weekend of tennis events, Chinese New Year Celebrations, a Moonlight Snowshoe Hike, Opera, Valentine’s Day fun and even a FROSTival Snow Ball dance to name a few.

And don’t forget to round-out your FROSTival experience with Dine Around Freddy (Jan 23 – Feb 7) by enjoying a 3 course meal at your choice of 11 Fredericton fine dining restaurants for just $29 per person.
