Fredericton Playhouse Announce 2016-2017 Kidstage Series

Series features family friendly performances by DuffleBag Theatre, Lightwire Theatre and renowned blues musician, Guy Davis.

kidstageThe Fredericton Playhouse has announced its 2016-2017 Kidstage Series, featuring three performances specifically programmed for children and families.

The series begins on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 with an annual favourite for Playhouse audiences, DuffleBag Theatre. The company will bring its latest production, ’Twas the Night Before Christmas to the city in the midst of the holiday season. And as with each DuffleBag Theatre show, audiences can expect an evening of spontaneous fun and audience involvement.

The series continues on Sunday, February 26, 2017 with a captivating performance by New Orlean’s Lightwire Theater, performing their show Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey. The company has been recognized internationally for its electroluminescent artistry, and innovative theatrical storytelling. Moon Mouse tells the story of Marvin, a mouse who longs to be a hero, and ends up taking the space adventure of a lifetime. This special performance will be a Pay-What-You-Will show.

Guy Davis will round out the series on Sunday, April 9, 2017 when he bring his Routes of the Blues show to the Fredericton Playhouse stage. Known internationally as an ambassador of the blues, Davis has performed for audiences around the globe and is a past performer at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival.  This performance is sure to help children and their families gain a deeper appreciation for the music that has come to define the fall season in Fredericton.

The Kidstage Series has played an important role within the city’s arts community since its inception in the 1980s. Originally programmed by the Council of the Arts in Fredericton, the series was later produced in partnership with the Playhouse, eventually becoming part of the venue’s annual season programming.
