Fredericton designer/blogger Dee Wilkie will be launching her new website in style with a party at the Maybee Brewery on August 11, 2016 at 7:30 pm.
A graduate of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, Wilkie presented her first line of hand-dyed silks during last fall’s Atlantic Fashion Week in Halifax. Since completing her degree in 2012 with a focus in Surface Design, Wilkie’s work with silk, cotton, velvet and knits has been involved in over 40 collaborations and photoshoots. Most recently, Wilkie and fellow collaborators dancer/model Katie McDonald and photographer Brent McCombs were featured on the cover of the July 2016 issue of CreatedHere, a New Brunswick-based magazine focusing on the work of New Brunswick artists.
“I work primarily with silk,” said Wilkie, “although part of my process is collaborating with others and bringing talented people from all over the east coast together to create stunning images using all of our special talents and skill sets. Silk is my absolute favorite. It is such a luxurious fabric and dyes so well. When you wear silk you instantly feel pampered.”
The upcoming launch event will celebrate her new website deewilkie.com which will act as both a portal for sharing updates on her latest work as well as an account of her own journey as an artist and entrepreneur living in New Brunswick. For the past year, Wilkie has been blogging about art at The Art Project.
“My website will feature blog posts on current fashion collabs, design trends, and tips and tricks to help you survive the trials and tribulations that come along with following your dreams and starting your own business,” said Wilkie. “To celebrate, I will be hosting a launch party at Maybee Brewery where there will be a pop-up shop with a line of silk scarves that are inspired by local bloggers all over the east coast, as well as decorative throw pillows that a local Syrian family has helped me with. A local magician will also be there and will be performing magic tricks with my silk.”
