Everything about Canada Day in Fredericton to be Bigger in 2016.

Media Release

CanadaDayPoster_2016(Fredericton) Bigger, is the word The Fredericton Canada Day Committee is using to describe this year’s event, a bigger schedule, bigger headliners and even a bigger stage.  The committee is bringing Fredericton native son David Myles home to be the headline act for one of the two nights of live entertainment planned.

And yes, for the first time ever Canada Day Festivities in Fredericton will expand to cover two days. Once again Canada Day itself will include ten hours of live entertainment, offered completely free of charge, games and activities for kids, food vendors and to cap the evening off a giant fireworks display. But this year’s event will also feature the Canada Day Kick Off Party on June 30th with an additional four hours of live musical entertainment which the public can enjoy completely free of charge.

“We are really thrilled to add a second evening of live entertainment to this year’s event” says committee co-chair Charles Barry “It is something we have wanted to do for a long time. Our kickoff party will feature over four hours of live music and there will be a licensed area and food vendors on hand as well”.

Barry is also pleased to have Fredericton’s own David Myles headline the festivities on Canada Day. “Every time David performs in Fredericton its special “ says Barry “To have him perform for free on an important day like Canada Day is really exciting”.  Some of the acts joining David on Canada Day will be Johnathan Roy from Quebec  ,Les Jeunes  d’ Asterure out of Moncton, and Tyler Hachey.

Barry is also very excited with the headliner for The Canada Day Kick Off Party. Saskatchewan rockers One Bad Son will be the headliners for this inaugural event. “ This is a band with a huge following and we are really excited to have them be the feature performers for our kick off party” says Barry. Halifax based  Alert The Medic  will be among the acts joining One Bad Son for the kickoff party.

And there are more acts to follow.  The committee will be announcing the remainder of the musical line up for this year’s Canada Day two day event  soon,  but all of this year’s acts will be performing on a new stage.  The committee has announced that, thanks to sponsorship with Molson Breweries, a new temporary stage will be brought in providing better viewing for the audience and some protection for bands and sound engineers from Mother Nature.

“This new stage will enhance people’s enjoyment of the music, will be much easier for the bands to  perform on, and will mean a few rain showers won’t shut down our music  down as in past years” says Barry.

The committee is pleased to be ramping up their event in the downtown given that other downtown musical events are not taking place this summer.  “We want to send a message that there is still  lots going on in Fredericton this summer and our two night event means there is only one place to be this Canada Day weekend.”  says committee co- chair, Paul Wentzell.  “With our family focused activities throughout Canada Day plus fourteen hours of free live musical entertainment over the two days and our giant Remax Fireworks display, why would you go anywhere else ?  “We hope everyone in Fredericton invites everyone they know to come see One Bad Son and our very own David Myles this Canada Day Weekend. “
