Fredericton’s campus/community radio station announces lineup for 2019 performance series.
CHSR FM’s Live in the Lobby series is back for a third (and extended) season beginning next month with a performance by Saint John songwriter Kylie Fox. Launched in 2017, Live in the Lobby offers students and the greater community a chance to enjoy live music in a very up-close and personal fashion.
For seven weeks starting October 1, Fredericton’s long-running community/campus radio station will open its doors to the public to host a range of performances from local and regional musicians. All shows are free and open to anyone interested in hearing what local music sounds like.
“This series is definitely a labour of love,” said station manager Erin Bond. “The audience tends to be modest in size but we have witnessed it grow each week.
“We’re incredibly humbled by the amount of artists who have reached out about performing as part of Live in the Lobby since the series began, and due to such increased interest this year we have decided to extend the series by an extra week,” she said.
Part of the station’s mandate is to help under-represented artists and voices find an audience. For over six decades the station has championed local music makers and artists through regular programming that highlights musicians from New Brunswick and across the Maritimes. Live in the Lobby is an extension of this dedication.
“What keeps this series going each year is the idea that we can help foster and create a culture of live music on campus, and also become a venue for up-and-coming artists to gain performance experience,” said Bond, who created the series in part as a response to the lack of live music available to students on campus.
The third edition of Live in the Lobby kicks off October 1 with a performance from from Kylie Fox, followed by Chris Meaney, Pallmer, Joe Ross, Dillon Ryan, Richie Young, and a collaborative performance from Missy B, Yxnglord, Authentic & Ms. Thomas in the coming weeks.
All events takes place in the station lobby, located inside the Student Union Building on the UNB campus. 6 p.m.
