Fredericton’s NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival has officially launched its annual playwriting contest seeking submissions from emerging playwrights across several categories ranging in length from 7-10 minute scripts to larger 30-60 minute scripts.

Now in its seventeenth season, this annual summer theatre festival has come to be recognized as a launch pad for emerging theatre talent from across the province, offering playwrights of all levels an opportunity to see their work brought to life in a variety stages from outdoor, site-specific locations to fully produced indoor theatre experiences.

“We’ve been thrilled over the years with how the playwriting contest has encouraged and uncovered new writers from the province,” said NotaBle Acts Artistic Director Len Falkenstein.  “For many writers the contest has been their first stab at writing for the stage, and in writing their first plays they’ve discovered a new passion and we’ve discovered new great talents, with results that just keep multiplying.”

Since staging its first plays in 2001, the NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival has produced over 200 new plays from more 90 New Brunswick playwrights as part of its annual summer festival.

This year’s contest covers all areas of the festival’s programming and also includes categories for middle and high school playwrights.

All winning playwrights from the 2018 contest will receive a cash prize, professional mentoring and public readings or performances as part of NotaBle Acts’ 2018 festival, July 25 – August 4.

Writers interested in entering the contest should consult the full contest rules, guidelines, and submission procedures at www.nbacts.com. Questions can be posed to Artistic Director, Len Falkenstein, at lfalken@unb.ca, or (506) 458-7406. The deadline for entries is April 23rd, 2018.
