A Holiday Dinner Theatre

Fredericton’s aBunchOfUs Productions returns with An Elf’s Christmas Vacation, December 17-19, 2015 at the Delta Fredericton.

10174842_10156045676685391_7133637998058775424_nJill Scaplen and Megan DeCourcey founded a BunchOfUs Productions nearly ten years ago to perform mainly at private events and conferences.  Last year they introduced their first public performance with the holiday special A Rockin’ White Christmas.  This year they’re back to celebrate the holiday season with An Elf’s Christmas Vacation.

“We wanted to create a fun, interactive, holiday show that would hopefully one day become a tradition in Fredericton,” said Scaplen.  “Dinner theatre used to be far more prevalent in this city many years ago than it is now, and we wanted to see a return to this type of entertainment.”

The response so far has been overwhelming.  To meet the holiday demand, the company has added two additional performances to this year’s show.

“An Elf’s Christmas Vacation draws inspiration from the iconic Christmas movies Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” said Scaplen, “and follows an adopted, would-be elf (Alex Donovan), a beleaguered patriarch (Fred McCausland), a sunny but unnappreciated housewife (Jill Scaplen), and a Christmas-weary teenager (Megan DeCourcey). Throw in a couple of off-beat relatives (Shawn Bower and Cyndi Aitken) with a penchant for road kill and chemical toilets and you’ve got a household vibrating with pent-up anxieties and resentments, ripe for a Christmas miracle. And not only do we have colourful characters, but our story is a musical one set to the tune of a few 60s, 70s, and 80s rock gems and Christmas favourites alike.

“This show is special to me personally because it’s a culmination of so much creative work onstage and off and I get to collaborate with some of the finest actors and musicians in the city. We have so much fun putting this show together and I think that translates on stage. We’re friends, creative colleagues and we get to feel like rock stars for a brief moment in time. And nothing compares to the luminous smiles and huge laughter from the audience. After all, it isn’t Christmas without some great music and a delicious meal, right?”
