Calithumpians Announce March Break Camp

Category: arts 169

Fredericton theatre troupe offers youth a creative cure for the winter blues.

The Calithumpians will be running a March Break version of their Act Now! Drama Camps for kids ages 6 to 14.

This drama camp will run March 5th to 9th, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, at The New Brunswick College of Craft and Design on Queen Street in downtown Fredericton. During the week, students learn what it takes to put on a Calithumpian-style show by writing their very own play collectively with experienced instructors, participating in workshops on singing, dance, and improvisational acting.

The Calithumpians’ Act Now! Drama Camps offer children and adolescents a special experience with an Enviro-Drama twist focused on environmental stewardship. The weeklong day camp gives participants first hand theatre experience through the Calithumpians’ tried and true method of creative drama activities and participatory games. By the end of the week, the campers present their finished product to a real live audience of parents and friends, making Act Now! not just a catchy title, but a promise.

A staple of summer life in downtown Fredericton for generations, the Calithumpians (also known as Fredericton Outdoor Summer Theatre) have been offering their unique brand of drama camps for over thirty years.

Counselors for this camp are Calithumpian veterans Maggie Cronin, Lars Schwarz and Mark Loggie. The camp culminates with a short play written and performed by the campers that debuts Friday at noon at NBCCD.
