The hit Australian musical stage production Queen: It’s a Kinda Magic is touring Canada with stops in Fredericton and Saint John this month.

Originally scheduled for 2020, the hit Australian musical stage production Queen: It’s a Kinda Magic underwent several postponements due to the worldwide pandemic restrictions. Now back on track for this summer, the tour will perform 36 shows right across the country including two in New Brunswick.

“It’s been an unbelievably hard couple of years for our industry,” said the show’s director and producer, Johnny Van Grinsven. “I thought it would take much longer for customer confidence to bounce back, but Canadians have been showing amazing support and now the cast is more excited than ever to get back on stage and put on a memorable show.”

The 2022 tour will be the long-running production’s first Canadian tour since 2018, and the first visit with the new cast, including South African music prodigy Dominic Warren – an acclaimed vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, and former student of the prestigious Drakensberg Boys Choir School.

Performing as Freddie Mercury, Warren takes on the enormous task of performing Queen’s biggest hits, all live on stage and in their original key for up to six shows per week.

“I’m constantly studying Freddie,” said Warren. “His mannerisms, his movements and his energy are super important, as well as the musicality of course. But there will only ever be one Freddie, so rather than trying to ‘be’ him, I hope that Freddie’s character will shine through in my performance and that we’ll do justice to his musical legacy, for his fans.”

The tour promises to deliver the true Rock concert experience with all the spectacular lighting and FX of a big international production.
