Six Shows to See This Week in Fredericton

Category: music 173

And so begins another busy week of entertainment. Looking to get out and see a show? Here are six wide ranging options to choose from.

The Liquor Store | August 24 | The Cap | Doors 7:30 | Show 8 | Buy Tickets

Here’s a fun one. Have you ever seen a six piece jazz band on stage at The Cap?  This Wednesday, Montreal’s The Liquor Store will fill the stage and the entire room with their own brand of funked up jazz. They’ve got horns. They’re got keys. They’ve got groove for days. What more could you possibly hope for on a Wednesday night in the summer? Oh, and this show wraps up at 10 p.m. Bam!

Banda Taverna | August 24 | Grimross Brewing Co. | Doors 7:30 | Show 8 | $10 at the door

Brazil’s Celtic conduits, Banda Taverna will be swinging back through town again this week for a set of Celtic inspired jams at the city’s only uptown venue. Banda Taverna play a mix of traditional Irish music and contemporary interpretations of music from a diverse group of artists ranging from The Beatles (check out their cover of Norwegian Wood) to Iron Maiden (check out their cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name). Worth every cent.

Rory Taillon | August 25 | The Tipsy Muse Café | 7 p.m. | Buy Tickets

By now, there is a good chance you’re familiar with Ottawa singer/songwriter Rory Taillon. You may even be friends. He’s been coming to town for years and has played many a Living Roots Music Festival stage. Rory is back this week playing at The Tipsy Muse Café. See for yourself why Rory has become a local favourite. Your Thursday night is now planned.

Nick Gummeson & James O’Farrell | August 27 | Southside Shake | 7 p.m.

As one half of the Fredericton jazz duo Bridge, Nick Gummeson has been playing the Southside Shake patio for over a year now. Enjoy some smooth jazz this Saturday on the east end of Queen with piano and sax as your soundtrack.

Novichok + Hero’s Last Rite + Engage The Threat | August 27 | The Cap | Doors 9 | Show 9:30 | $10 at the door

Heavy and loud. This is a performance trend we can get behind. Swing by The Cap this Saturday as the city’s favourite live music venue continues to bring metal to the masses with another three band bill. This week it’s Halifax’s bandana wearing moshers Novichok with Engage The Threat from Moncton and Fredericton’s own not-seen-on-stage-nearly-enough metal institution Hero’s Last Rite. Wear your ear plugs. It’s gonna get loud.

Steve-O | Fredericton Playhouse | 8 p.m. | Buy Tickets

That’s right. World famous comedic stuntman and you-name-it entertainer Steve-O will be in town this week with his x-rated Bucket List tour. The last time we checked, there were literally two tickets left for this show. Sunday’s show sold out back when it was announced. If you ever wanted to know what an XXX-rated, multimedia comedy show looks like, your prayers have been answered. Someone buy those last two seats.
