Vancouver filmmaker O. Corbin Saleken will visit Fredericton next week for the world premiere screening of his new film, The Dummy Factor, at this year’s Silver Wave Film Festival.

Described as “a charming, sometimes suspenseful, coming-of-age story about a 12-year-old boy who investigates the disappearances of some children in his neighbourhood,” the film, shot in Vancouver, represents one man’s dedication to storytelling. The entire self-funded project was written, directed, produced, photographed, production designed, edited, sound designed, coloured, and mixed by Saleken.

After a successful screening of his short film The Vehicle, which also won an award for Best Sci-Fi Short at the 2012 Silver Wave Film Festival, Saleken made the decision to return to the festival this year to premiere his latest film.

“Back in 2012, the Silver Wave Film Festival was the first festival to program my short The Vehicle and the first to give me an award for filmmaking,” he said. “I cannot overstate how significant these two occurrences were for me.  It therefore feels particularly fitting that the first film festival that validated me as a filmmaker would be the festival where I would premiere my new feature film, The Dummy Factor.

“This film could not be more personal to me,” said Saleken. “Not only is it inspired by my childhood experiences, but it also stars my two nephews, and I cannot think of a better, more welcoming environment in which to debut it than the Silver Wave Film Festival. I have an enormous amount of affection for this festival, and I can’t wait to share my film with its wonderful audience.”

Saleken’s award-winning first feature film Patterson’s Wager, which stared Fred Ewanuick (Corner Gas) and Chelah Horsdal (Man in the High Castle), screened at film festivals across North American.  It was acquired by Indiecan Entertainment for distribution and recently made its broadcast debut on Hollywood Suite.
