Theatre New Brunswick returns to Pemberley this holiday season

Category: stage 115

Following last season’s opulent romp through Jane Austen’s Pemberley Manor, Theatre New Brunswick’s 2022 holiday production of The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley imagines the festive season from the opposite side of wealth and splendor.

Theatre New Brunswick continues its holiday tradition of sharing festive, seasonal stories on stage with the upcoming production, The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley.

Written by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, The Wickhams features many familiar characters from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, as well as some new faces. The story focuses on a no-nonsense housekeeper, a spirited new maid, and a love-sick, enterprising footman, deeply engaged in holiday preparations at Pemberley.

As companion piece to last season’s Miss Bennet, The Wickhams is an ebullient homage, replete with the tell-tale markers of any Austen narrative: love, family, and some fiercely determined women.

“Last year’s production of Miss Bennet was a lot of fun, so we couldn’t resist the opportunity to revisit the story from a different angle,” said Natasha MacLellan, TNB’s artistic and executive director. “This show works perfectly as a standalone script so whether you caught last year’s production or not, you’ll find everything you seek in a good story with The Wickhams – humour, love, struggle, and all the seasonal vibes we all seek this time of the year.”

The production features a number of returning cast members from last season’s Miss Bennet as well as many actors from the Atlantic region making their TNB debut under the direction of Lisa C. Ravensbergen who traveled from Vancouver to direct this year’s holiday show.

“We have a great story, a wonderful cast, and an inspiring director,” said MacLellan. “I’m very excited to share this production with everyone!”
