SJTC Announces 30th Season

A diverse Main Stage line-up and plenty of summer fun in the works for the Saint John Theatre Company’s 30th season of work.

The Saint John Theatre Company (SJTC) hosted a special 30th season launch on Thursday, May 2nd. Three Main Stage Series works performed on the Imperial Theatre stage as well as some smaller scale pieces at the company’s very own BMO Studio Theatre were announced.

SJTC Artistic Director Stephen Tobias and SJTC Board President George Daniel announced the selected projects.  The SJTC’s 30th season will include the Loyalist City Shakespeare production of Much Ado About Nothing (July 16-20) the seventh annual Fundy Fringe Festival (Aug 19-24), an ambitious Main Stage Series at Imperial Theatre, and an engaging in house Studio Series. Full details on the SJTC Studio Series as well as the popular Live @ The BMO Music Series will be announced at a later date.

The SJTC 2019-2020 Main Stage Series at Imperial Theatre will open with the most loved holiday classic of all time, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (Nov 20-23). The script will be an original adaptation by Bob Doherty, directed by Dean Turner. Mid-season on the Main Stage is the award winning Alfred Uhry drama Driving Miss Daisy (March 25-28) directed by Stephen Tobias. The Main Stage season will come to a magical and memorable close with the larger than life musical Mary Poppins (May 20-23) directed by Jennifer Mabey. 

“As we enter our 30th season the SJTC will continue to break new ground,” said Tobias. “Touring networks are expanding. International partnerships are in the works. Productions are growing in size and complexity. Opportunities for local theatre-makers, visiting guest artists and young theatre professionals are being developed. I am confident that we will be able to report that this season will be the biggest and the best season ever!”
