Saint John rapper Sw3aTy Sam (James Derrah) continues to share singles from his forthcoming sophomore album, Time Heals All Wounds, due out later this year. With his latest, Man of the Year, Derrah takes us through a breakup and the emotional turmoil that accompanies such a life changing event. Opening with the line, “I lost ten pounds in a week, it was rough,” the song is about searching for a clean slate, trying to detach from all the emotional baggage that comes with the end of a relationship, and perhaps making a few poor choices along the way. Powered by a catchy and relatable chorus (“Right now I don’t care. I don’t give a fuck about nuthin”), Derrah’s words – though raw and unforgiving – convey a retable reaction, whether we chose to admit it or not.

In April, Derrah will play his first live show since 2018 opening for Swollen Members co-founder Madchild at Callie’s Pub on April 29.
