This merger is expected to help the league move forward by combining resources to further flat track roller derby in the Fredericton area. Both the Daisy Cutters and the Bazooka Janes had amazing seasons in 2015. The Spitfires will make their home town debut this coming May.

“Choosing this year to add a blended team to our league will maximize game play for all of our players as it will give us the opportunity to play more bouts and tournaments at higher levels, while still giving us the opportunity to host the Capital City Rumble this August,” said CCR president Melanie Webb who skates under the name, Rage ‘n Roll.

Fredericton’s roller derby teams competed in six games and two regional tournaments last season and hosted a three-day international tournament in Fredericton this past August, drawing a crowd of 300-plus derby-enthusiasts. With just two seasons under their belt, the Bazooka Janes finished out the year undefeated in all of their full-length games.

“We will still be playing a couple of double-headers as the Daisy Cutters and Bazooka Janes,” said Webb. “Since we’re rolling into our sixth year as a league, and roller derby continues to gain momentum as a sport, we felt this year would be a good time to focus on strengthening all our skills as committed league members. We are very excited to debut this team, and hope to see the community out to cheer us on at our home opener in May.”
