Bel Canto Singers will be back on stage this weekend performing a repertoire of songs spanning in eight languages and ranging from the 12th century to the present day. Selections will include ancient religious songs, Renaissance madrigals, lieder of the Romantic period, modern choral classics and newly composed works. Spring Through Time will share a musical journey through the centuries, sometimes somber or wistful, but always pointing optimistically to the future and grounded in joy.

The Bel Canto Singers spring performance will be under the direction of Justin Guinard, with accompaniment by Thomas Gonder.

Born and raised in Dieppe, New Brunswick, Justin Guignard is one of New Brunswick’s up-and-coming conductors. Having started his conducting career at the age of 16, he now considers his baton an extension of his hand. Guignard has an affinity for lyrical conducting, something he has developed through his extensive career as a singer under the tutelage of Melody Dobson, Daniel Lichti, Victor Martens, and Monette Gould.  His voice has led him to perform in such prestigious venues as the National Arts Centre (Ottawa) and Carnegie Hall (NYC). Having studied composition with Dr. Glenn Buhr and Dr. Richard Gibson, Justin’s compositions have been performed by orchestras and choirs from Canada, the Dominican Republic, Israel, and the United Kingdom.
