Saint John’s Imperial Theatre is gearing up to celebrate high school musicals in a big way.

“I am pleased to announce the Imperial Theatre will be hosting the inaugural Southern New Brunswick High School Musical Awards,” said Angela Campbell, Executive Director of the Imperial Theatre in a video posted earlier today. “This is a red carpet event that you are not going to want to miss. We, more than anyone, understand the time, the energy, the effort, the investment that goes into pulling a stage production together.”

Campbell called the announcement the most exciting of the Imperial’s current season.

The evening will feature student groups from high schools throughout the southern New Brunswick region each performing one song from their respective 22/23 productions. These performances will bring together students from Rothesay High School, Sussex Regional High School, Hampton High School, Rothesay Nertherwood School, St. Malachy’s Memorial High School, Kennebecasis Valley High School, Fundy High School, and Simonds High School in a celebration of young performers and those who support and help make these events happen each year.

“We thought it was high time to celebrate the work that students and teachers and parents and volunteers put in every single year to get high school student musical productions on stage so that they can shine in front of everyone.”

Each school is also encouraged to bring a tech student to participate in creating the evening while gaining hands-on experience working in one of the province’s most storied performance venues.
