Ottawa old time roots duo C.A. & Sonny get the week started early with a Tuesday night performance at Broken Record Bar & Music Room kicking off five straight nights of live music performances.

One-time Frederictonian Calum Jackson (now based in Ottawa) will be back in the city performing with his current project C.A. & Sonny, a roots music duo featuring Jackson and fellow old time music revivalist Sonny Aitken. Touring in support of their latest album, The C.A. & Sonny Show Vol. 2, the pair will be joined by Ottawa-based folk singer Sal. A foot stompin’ night of timeless music awaits.

Mike Legere + Keegan and the Vandalorians + Rob Cameron | Broken Record Bar & Music Room | June 1 | 8:30 p.m. | View Event

Toronto-based, Nova Scotia-born musician Mike Legere is touring his latest album Memory Forming Clouds. He and his band will be in the city on Thursday for a performance at Broken Record. Following a series of highly personal losses, Legere set-up a makeshift studio in rural Nova Scotia where he wrote and recorded his latest album, described as “shimmering and poignant.” Beautiful songwriting guided by sincere emotion. Keegan and the Vandalorians and Rob Cameron open the night.

Contemporary roots trio Hauler (featuring members of Slowcoaster and Rum Ragged) are playing Grimross Brewing this Friday. Sharing a mix of original songs and offering new twists on some timeless classics for the folk canon, Hauler delivers just what your roots loving soul seeks.

Another night of local hip hop coming up this week at The Cap. Kerr makes his return to the stage following a highly successful EP release show back in April. Kerr leads a lineup packed with emerging rappers guaranteed to get your head nodding and your but shaking. With Frank Mack on the turntables, you know you’re in good hands.  

Jason Anderson | The Tipsy Muse Café | June 4 | 7 p.m. | View Event  

Playing his first hometown show following an extensive tour of the U.S. and Ontario earlier this year, Jason Anderson returns to the Tipsy Muse stage this week for what is sure to be another memorable night of music. Expect to hear a staggering range of originals, a few choice (and often unexpected) covers, and more than a couple of good stories to boot. Anderson is as gifted a singer and performer as you could ever hope to hear live on stage in your own backyard.
