Fredericton’s outdoor theatre company Bard in the Barracks are set to launch a new season with productions of both Cymbeline and The Comedy of Errors opening this week.
Cymbeline is a Shakespearean fairy tale come to life! In ancient Britain, princess Imogen is separated from her true love, Posthumus, through the machinations of her wicked step-mother, who wants to marry her to her doltish son, Cloten. Meanwhile, Posthumus is tricked into thinking Imogen unfaithful and seeks revenge. All this while King Cymbeline unwisely plots an armed rebellion against Britain’s imperial overlords, the Romans.
Bard in the Barracks’ The Princess Bride-inspired Cymbeline is a story of lovers and families torn apart and eventually reunited, an epic romance that will sweep you from London to Rome to the wilds of Wales in the course of an evening’s adventure outdoors in beautiful Odell Park, replete with scheming Italians, dangerous potions, buffoonish villains, stirring battle scenes, and thrill-a-minute surprises both dark and wonderful.
