As one of the youngest trios playing music in New Brunswick today, Saint John’s Baby Hands are wasting no time making their presence known. The group, made up of brothers Andrew (12) and Neil Waldschutz (14), along with Carter Russell (11) wrote their first four songs as part of a group performance class at InterAction School of Performing Arts. The resulting EP, Sorry, Earth is Closed Today, was released via Bandcamp on April 16.

“We met Carter at music camp and we all became friends, so we decided to start a band,” said guitarist Andrew Waldschutz.

Working together with instructor Chuck Teed, the members of Baby Hands penned the songs that make up their first release, Sorry, Earth is Closed Today

“We wanted to write our own music, and create some unique content,” says Neil. “We’re really happy with how it turned out.”

Sorry, Earth is Closed Today was recorded live at the Imperial Theatre last summer by Sean Boyer as part of the theatre’s Incubator program. Baby Hands returned to the Imperial in March 2021 to record the video for Sanitization which was shot by local filmmaker Tyler Warren Ellis.

Sanitization, a topical take on current events, was written at the start of the pandemic via Zoom.

“It was a lot harder to write because we couldn’t play together, but it ended up being one of our best songs,” said Andrew.

Sorry, Earth is Closed Today will be available now on Bandcamp. All proceeds for the sale of the EP will be donated to InterAction School of Performing Arts. Purchase your copy HERE
