A quick run through some of the events happening this week in the world of art, music and film.

Bard in the Barracks 2019 is now in full swing. Catch performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Measure For Measure this week and next.

Monday

Fredericton Arts Alliance Artists in Residence presents Clarissa Hurley & Eva Christensen. The 2019 Artists in Residence program begins on June 24 at the Soldiers’ Barracks Casemates in the Garrison District. The first pair of featured artists will be established theatre practitioner Clarissa Hurley, and local visual artist Eva Christensen. The studio is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Tuesday

Open Mic Night at The Capital. Rich Gloade hosts this weekly event at The Capital. If you are a duo, or a band, stop by and try out a new tune in front of a very encouraging crowd. 9 p.m. No cover.

Outdoor Summer Concert Series: Fredericton Marching Band.  This free concerts begins at 7:30 p.m. Rain Date: Wednesday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Bard in the Barracks presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Odell Park. Enjoy a 50’s Hollywood take on Shakespeare’s most popular and best-known comedy. Arrive at 7:15 p.m. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. $20. 

Wednesday

Downtown Motown with The Mothership at Wilser’s Room. Yup, that’s right! The Mothership is back to funk up all of your Wednesday’s in Wilser’s Room. They’re joined by Fredericton’s newest funk band, Downtown Motown. Doors at 9 p.m. Show at 10. $6.

Road Waves + The Fundy Drifters at Grimross Brewing Co. Niagara’s Road Waves bring the jam, funk and soul to the tap room, joined by Fredericton’s The Fundy Drifters. Doors at 7 p.m. $10.

Bard in the Barracks presents Measure For Measure in Barracks Square. Enjoy a 60’s adaptation take on Shakespeare’s ‘problem comedy’. Arrive at 7:15 p.m. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. $20. 

Outdoor Summer Concert Series: Mark Roberts Band (Roots R&B). 7 p.m. Lawrence Amphitheatre (Nashwaaksis Commons). Free. Rain Date: Monday, July 1 at 7 p.m.

Thursday

NB Summer Music Festival’s Music of Dali at The Beaverbrook Art Gallery. The New Brunswick Summer Music Festival and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery present Yvonne Kershaw and Richard Hornsby playing music by composers Fuchs, Ferroud, and Ibert. This music represents a time when artists such as William Morris and Salvador Dali were working, amid the transition from Victorian to the early-twentieth century. 7 p.m.

Bard in the Barracks presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Odell Park. Enjoy a 50’s Hollywood take on Shakespeare’s most popular and best-known comedy. Arrive at 7:15 p.m. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. $20. 

A Songwriter Showcase at The Tipsy Muse. Mark Roberts swaps songs and stories with other noted NB songwriters in a 4 night series running Thursday nights in June. In this final installment of the series, Mark welcomes Glamour Puss Blues Band’s Travis Furlong. 7 p.m. $10.

Apollo Suns + The Falling Leaves at The Capital. Why not celebrate the kickoff of this year’s Follyfest with a show at The Capital? Enjoy music by Winnipeg quartet Apollo Suns and Fredericton’s own Falling Leaves. Doors at 8 p.m. Show at 9. Free!

Garrison Night Market. Handmade goods, locally-grown farm products, craft brews, fresh food, live performances… All this and more at the Garrison Night Market. Every Thursday night (4:30-9 p.m.) from June 20 – September 5th downtown on Carleton Street.

Friday

Kill Chicago + 86&8 + Square Dance Kid at The Capital. It’s a very ‘Fredericton’ night at The Capital with performances by three city acts. 10 p.m. $8.

Bard in The Barracks 2019: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Measure For Measure. Fredericton’s outdoor Shakespeare summer theatre tradition opens a new season this weekend with Pay-What-You-Wish performances of Measure For Measure on June 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Barracks Square and A Midsummer Night’s Dream on June 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Odell Park.

John Muirhead at The Tipsy Muse Café. With stories and songs that kindle late-night Canadian campfires, Muirhead’s indie-folk sound will move you in more ways than one. 7 p.m. $10.

Summer Concert Series at Christ Church Cathedral: Barrachois Festival Concert. A wide variety of classical song from many periods performed by some of Canada’s most talented young musicians. 12:10 p.m. No charge. Donations welcome.

Saturday

Andrew Hunter at The Tipsy Muse Café. It’s been a while since Andrew Hunter has been in these parts… last time he was in town opening for I Mother Earth with the full band. 7 p.m. $10.

Hip Hop Night at The Capital. Enjoy performances by Kam Speech, Old Self, Mathewmatical, Wolf Castle and others plus special guest celebrity host Ceeb Dread. 9 p.m. $5 in advance. $8 at the door.

Maggie’s Farm Revival at Wilser’s Room. As their name states, Maggie’s Farm Revival pays homage to the classic 60’s Bob Dylan song “Maggie’s Farm”, an inspiration that carries through to their sound and song selection, as they focus on 60’s and 70’s blues and rock music, playing classics from one of the greatest eras in music history. 8 p.m.

Branch Out Productions Clothing Drive Fundraiser at Henry Park Ballpark. Branch Out Productions, in partnership with East Coast Community Cares, will be hosting a clothing drive fundraiser! Every garbage bag full of clothing, bedding and linen donations earns BOP $3 to help with some exciting upcoming theatre projects. Plus, the clothing donations go to help some amazing local charities. 10 – 2 p.m.

Spooktacular Drag Show at the Fredericton Playhouse. Animaritime is excited to present our very own Spooktacular Drag Show featuring special guest: KimChi (performing two numbers) and amazing local drag performers! 8:30 p.m. $43.50 – $63.50 + HST.

Sunday

Family Art Day at The beaverbrook Art Gallery. This month’s Family Art Day includes a flag-making activity, a Canadian Friendship Mural to which all are welcome to contribute, a traditional beading workshop, a presentation by Percy Sacobie, and more! 12-5 p.m.

Appetite for Destruction: A Guns and Roses Tribute at The Capital. Come check out your favourite Guns and Roses Tribute band, Appetite for Destruction. They’ll be playing your favourite GNR tunes. 10 p.m. $10.

Bard in the Barracks presents: TWINBILL SUNDAY! Spend your day with Shakespeare and enjoy performances of both A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Measure For Measure. Full details at bardinthebarracks.com
