Spearhead Theatre start the year off with the launch of the Sunday Service Series, an ongoing series of public theatre workshops.

It’s been quite a season so far for Spearhead Theatre. In the fall, the company staged its first production, Agnes of God, and in November they hosted a successful 24 hour play creation event.

To keep this momentum going, Spearhead Theatre will launch a new workshop series this month. The Sunday Service Series begins with an afternoon focused on one of the most important aspects of any artist’s annual workload – Auditions and Submissions.

“I wanted to begin our Sunday Service Series with the Submissions & Auditions workshop because it is, whether we like it or not, a necessary part of any actor’s career,” said Spearhead Theatre’s Artistic Director Kelly McAllister. “We are always auditioning or submitting for one thing or the other whether it’s for a residency, a post-secondary institution or conservatory, or an Equity show.  When one submission or audition is completed, we (hopefully!) have another to prepare for. It is a never ending cycle.”

McAllister is an accomplished stage and voice actor, director and puppeteer and will facilitate the series’ first workshop on January 5 at UNB’s Memorial Hall.

“I think the Fredericton theatre community sees me first and foremost as an actor, which is great, but I’ve also spent the better part of the last five years helping actors hone their skills, so I wanted to kick off the Sunday Service Series by teaching a workshop myself,” she said. “I am very excited to share what I’ve learned over the years through my own experiences auditioning, booking gigs, not booking gigs, not hearing back, and picking up the pieces and doing it all over again to make it to that audition I only knew I’d booked four days prior (true story).”
