Symphony New Brunswick opens its 2019-2020 Bravo Series

Vancouver based conductor, Janna Sailor and cellist Denise Djokic will join SNB for the first three performances in this season’s Bravo Series.

Symphony New Brunswick opens its 2019-2020 Bravo Series with a series of concerts entitled Timeless Elegance featuring Vancouver based conductor, Janna Sailor and Halifax native cellist, Denise Djokic. The program will include Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Orchestral Suite from Alceste, Canadian composer Peter Hatch’s Il Cimento dell’armonia et dell’inventione, Schubert’s cheerful Symphony no.3 and Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic Variations on a Rococo Theme featuring Djokic as solo cellist.

Sailor’s orchestral career is packed with impressive accomplishments. She formed the Allegra Chamber Orchestra, one of the only all-female classical orchestras in the world and an ensemble dedicated to creating opportunities for women and minorities in the music industry; and she has conducted major orchestras and ensembles including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Vancouver Bach Choir, among others.

Cellist Denise Djokic is known for her “seemingly natural ease and her glowing, warm tone and honest musical interpretations” (The Strad), she has accrued numorous distinctions and accolades including being named one of the top “25 Canadians who are changing our world” by Maclean’s Magazine and one of “Canada’s Most Powerful Women” by Elle Magazine. Djokic will be featured soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme.
