A quick look at Shivering Songs events for today, January 24.

Greg Keelor plays Wilmot United Church tonight with special guest Jennah Barry.

The ninth annual Shivering Songs festival is now in full swing with events happening across the downtown district all weekend including shows at the Boyce Farmer’s Market, the Capital Complex and Wilmot United Church.

There are two events happening today under the festival banner.  Let’s see what’s up.

Greg Keelor + Jennah Barry at Wilmot United Church

Singer, songwriter, guitarist, and co-founding member of iconic Canadian band Blue Rodeo, Greg Keelor embarks on his 5th project as a solo artist with Last Winter. A deeply personal and introspective musical journey, Last Winter creates a sonic landscape of time and place, weaving strings into songs to create an ethereal listening experience that’s anchored by Keelor’s distinctive voice. Greg recorded the collection of songs with multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire, Jim Bowskill, at his farm during the winter of 2016/2017, following Blue Rodeo’s 1000 Arms tour. Faced with the physical challenges resulting from the tour and news of several close friends and neighbours’ precarious health situations, Greg retreated to his farm and began processing his current state of body and mind into his music.

“With a folk guitar, a slide guitar and a voice as sweet as honey, Jennah Barry’s first album Young Men is “a lot of juicy gossip,” she says, drawing on a string of loves lost and won between the South Shore and Toronto… …Her songs have the maturity of an old-hand at romance, tough to let go of and so easy to love.” — The Coast (Adria Young)

A Songwriters Circle with The Montgomery Street Band

The Montgomery Street Band is a four piece string band composed of Patrick Gushue (mandolin/fiddle), Liam Keith-Jacques (guitar/dobro), and Jason Flores (upright bass), along with other occasional members. Along with masterful instrumentation, the bandmates also take turns leading three-part vocal harmonies. These avid street performers boast an impressive catalogue of old time music while also incorporating the blazing tempos and dynamic energy of a full fledged jam band. The Montgomery Street Band is the staple for a foot stompin’ good time in the Maritimes, buddy!

The evening will feature performances by Colin Fowlie, Kylie Fox, Benny Von, and Evan Leblanc.

A Songwriters Circle | Wilser’s Room | Doors at 8. Show at 9 p.m. | $10
