After another year of setbacks that complicated January plans, Shivering Songs will move ahead with a two stage programming model that will see performances take place in April and July.

Adaptability. That’s basically how we roll these days. Over the past two years very few events have gone ahead as originally planned. Some events were canceled altogether. Others saw dates change and house sizes ebb and flow to meet various levels of restriction. After a post-holiday Covid lockdown forced the postponement of Shivering Songs for the second year in a row, Fredericton’s midwinter music festival has today announced a new format for 2022 that will see programming divided between April and July.

April events include performances by Juno Award winners Bahamas and Rose Cousins; Halifax’s eclectic jazz singer Zamani; rootsy, bluesy rocker Ariel Posen; idiosyncratic and literary The Burning Hell; emotionally driven, alternative-pop singer Kim Harris; alt-folk singer-songwriter Kylie Fox; indie-rock, folk punk Jeffrey Lewis, and others with shows set to take place at The Tipsy Muse Café, The Cap, Wilmot Church, and the Fredericton Playhouse between April 13-16.

“We’re really excited to return after what felt like such a long wait,” said Festival co-organizer, Zach Atkinson. “This announcement celebrates so many local and regional artists, and we’re so grateful to bring this incredible array of talent to Fredericton. Our community has been a great source of support during this time, so we strive to highlight local artists and small businesses downtown, as a way to say thanks after the difficult winter hiatus.”

Detailed plans for July have yet to be announced and are expected to roll out over the coming months. Performances will take place July 15-17 on Carleton Street in an open air venue similar to last year’s Sweltering Songs event.
