River Jam, a celebration of music along the St. John River and one of the summer’s most fun music events takes place the evening of Friday, July 5 at the Delta Fredericton.
Live music starts on the patio at 5 p.m. with Frantically Atlantic and ends with a late night jam session inside at DJ Purdy’s. On four stages inside and out, there will be 17 bands performing this year. Set times are staggered so fans can catch a bit of every set and the music covers all genres – acoustic, folk, blues, country rock and everything in between. There will be four bands playing for their first time at River Jam like Pat Flanagan & Jazz Jones, Quinn Bonnell & the Heavy Steppers, and Marian. There will also be River Jam favourites like the Downtown Blues Band, Maggie’s Farm and Mad Mary. The Diane London Award will be presented just before the Downtown Blues Band performs.
River Jam is working with Rock the Boat River Adventures, docked behind the Dip Patio again this year and Captain Mike will be offering river cruises at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. For $10 cash per person, River Jammers can enjoy a scenic tour of the majestic St. John River in between sets.
River Jam has grown over the years and continues to capture the joy and importance of music on the Wolastoq. Each year River Jam performers generously donate their time and sponsors support the event, so that all funds raised can be donated to music-related community projects and organizations. Over the last 18 years more than $90,000 has been donated to community groups, schools, and music events. Last year River Jam supported the Fredericton Public and their new Musical Instrument Lending Library that launched last spring, enabling them to purchase a number of instruments.
”Fredericton and the St. John River region is home to a long standing tradition of music and performing arts and River Jam celebrates this home grown talent with incredible local bands”, said Pete Stafford, chairperson of River Jam. “We’re very happy to be able to support special music projects and community groups, all while celebrating the amazing talent in the region with this event, which we couldn’t do without the bands and performers donating their talent and time to this event.”
