Listen To A New Track From LUKA

Category: music 179

LUKA shares new track from upcoming album ahead of shows in Fredericton, Antigonish and Halifax.

As a lead-up to his new record, What Kind of Animal, LUKA (Luke Kuplowsky) has released the album’s first single, Quick Reflex.

What Kind of Animal, his third full-length album, will be released November 28, 2017 as a digital download and limited edition cassette. The album was recorded live off the floor in a single session in January 2016. The album features Evan Cartwright (Tasseomancy/ Andy Shauf), Sam Gleason and Cory Laktovich.

What Kind of Animal, assembles a collection of songs in a live session that refines and distills the unique voice of Canadian singer-songwriter Luke Kuplowsky. While his 2016 release “Summon Up A Monkey King” developed a playful and deadpan lyrical voice through Jonathan Richman-esque R&B and doo-wop, “What Kind of Animal” situates this voice in a sonic whirlwind of patient stillness and careening noise. Recorded and mixed live-to-tape over a one day session in January 2016, “Animal” is a quiet meditation imploding with energy and revelation, capturing a sincere poetic voice that seeks to unravel questions of self-doubt, integrity, companionship and faith. Recalling sonic and lyrical touchstones such as Cass Mccombs’ “Wit’s End”, Smog’s “A River Ain’t Much to Love” and Lou Reed’s “Blue Mask”, this is literate and thoughtful music to imbibe and explore.

LUKA and his band are currently on tour making their way to Halifax to perform at Halifax Pop Explosion.
