Announcement accompanied by a brilliant cover of Céline Dion’s, Because You Loved Me.
Ottawa’s Pony Girl have announced a fall tour that will include several East Coast dates with shows in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia between September 1 -11. Along with this announcement comes a new single from the band, a cover of Céline Dion’s, Because You Loved Me.
“Céline Dion is someone we sing a lot in the van,” said Pony Girl’s Greggory Clark. “Most of our parents are Québecois. Everyone grew up hearing Céline. And it’s just fun to sing her key changes and big breaks and stuff like ‘baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby WHEN YOU TOUCH ME LIKE THIS!’ It gets out of hand. It’s really uplifting actually.”
The band was initially approached by the music blog Quick Before It Melts to contribute a Canadian cover for an upcoming tribute compilation but after missing the deadline, decided to release the track on their own.
“We only had demos ready at the time,” said Clark. “Pony Girl wanted to record Céline anyways so went and did that. We thought we would send it to Jim Di Gioia at QBIM and he could say, ‘oh nice,’ but QBIM closed down this summer. This one’s for Jim.”
