Kylie Fox will be hitting the road in February playing dates throughout Quebec and Ontario beginning February 15 in Montreal. For these shows, Fox has partnered with drummer Stephen Bennet and bassist Justin Truman to form the trio, Kylie Fox and The Hound. The partnership can be traced back to a 2016 recording session for the track Sackville that was featured on the Mount Allison University compilation, Conduct Becoming, Voices Against Cancer.
“Stephen and Justin volunteered to accompany the tracks on the CD last year and they worked on one of my songs that had been recorded the year before and put on the album,” said Fox. “When it came time to release my EP, BalconyEP, I hired them to play the release show and sort of fell in love with them.
“I trust their musicianship wholeheartedly, they are easy and fun to collaborate with and they think outside the box in terms of structure and rhythm,” she said. “I feel like they have been my brothers forever. It’s also good motivation to prepare new material for each rehearsal. Steve is from the Annapolis Valley and studies Physics and plays in MTA’s Jazz Ensemble. Justin is from Amherst and studies biology.”
Fox was recently featured on CBC Radio’s Saint John music feature Take Liberty where guest Jeff Liberty called her “a true storyteller” and said her debut was “masterfully written”.
New Brunswick audiences can catch one last pre-tour performance when the trio plays Pepper’s Pub in Saint John on January 26 with East Coast Ragamuffins.
