Fredericton-based art-rock ensemble Motherhood are starting the year off in a major way. The band will head out on their first major U.S. tour in March with dates in Manhattan, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Portland (OR), Vancouver, Buffalo, and Portland (ME) and points between.

“We’re excited to be playing these iconic music cities for the first time. Motherhood is the first band that any of us joined, barring middle school punk bands, so we haven’t had the luxury of touring places with previous projects,” said Motherhood’s Penelope Stevens. “We all came of age playing in Motherhood, so it’s exciting that we’re finally able to go south of the border and see how our twang translates in another culture.”

The band will also perform at the Treefort Music Festival in Boise, ID, March 23 and 24, and the Fisherman’s Village Music Festival in Everett, WA the following weekend.

“This is our first U.S. tour so we’re excited to hit the road American-dream style and see what the bands are saying and hopefully make new friends,” adds guitarist Brydon Crain. “Personally, I’ve only ever seen states that look like New Brunswick, so I can’t wait to see some others. I’ve heard great things.”

In addition to sharing their upcoming tour dates, Motherhood have also announced that they have joined on with Nova Scotia management collective Forward Music Group.

“It seems to me like Forward has been lending a helping hand to Motherhood since we started,” said Crain. “Kyle [Cunjak] co-produced our new record and it seemed like a natural progression to start working with Forward officially.”

Over the past year, Motherhood have toured Canada a couple of times including stops at a few major Canadian festivals. They have played shows with The Sadies and Timber Timbre and have made collaborative projects a big part of the group’s existence. They have also been working on a new album, expected to surface sometime later this year.

The band’s second full-length album, Baby Teeth, will be released in the U.S. on March 19.
