Fredericton Convention Centre to host silent disco in support of Bullying Canada.

The Fredericton City Police won’t be getting any noise complaints from this party. On April 29, the Fredericton Convention Centre will host what they’re calling, “the loudest party you’ll never hear” – a four hour dance party in support of Bullying Canada.

If you’ve never experienced a silent disco, the concept is pretty simple. Everyone gets a set of headphones and can then select which DJ they want to hear. Over the past few years, the idea has proved to be a hit at festivals around the region including FeelsGood Folly Fest.

Recently, an FCC employee got a taste of the silent disco experience while in England and thought it would be a great event to host downtown.

“The idea to offer a Silent Disco at the FCC was the brainchild of our contract employee, Tanya Senechal, who had attended one when working in London, England and she wanted to bring that energy and fun to Fredericton,” said FCC’s Patricia Donnelly. “Tanya’s plan included partnering with Bullying Canada to give back to the community, and we thought it sounded like a fresh, fun idea to try.”

The event is a bit out of the ordinary for the crew at FCC who are usually working to bring events to the city, rather than organizing and hosting their own.

“The FCC primarily focuses on attracting and booking national and regional conferences and events,” said Donnelly, “but we also work hard to be involved in and give back to the community.

“Late April is still a bit too early for the fantastic outdoor festivals and concerts that happen in Fredericton during the warmer months, so it seemed like a great time to offer a new, fun indoor event.”

Organizers hope the event will encourage folks to break their winter hibernation and enjoy a fun night out.

“Our goal is to create a fun atmosphere for an evening in downtown, encourage people to have a meal or a drink at a local bar or restaurant before our doors open at 9 p.m., and raise funds for Bullying Canada at the same time via the coat check.”
