Hawksley Workman, Alicia Toner and Greg MacPherson among several artists set to perform at this year’s Living Roots Music Festival, May 30 – June 2.

Del Barber returns to the province as one of this year’s Living Roots Music Festival headliners.

Living Roots Music Festival is back for a fourth year. Building on three years of successful programming bringing music into familiar and not so familiar spaces, this year’s lineup combines a little bit of everything, from high energy rock acts to electronic music, a healthy dose of folk and lots more.

For this year’s event, organizers have chose to model the festival around the theme, Family Tree.

“This festival has truly been built from the roots up,” said festival founder Eddie Young. “It has grown organically without the assistance of outside funding. We leverage fundraisers and an awesome community of people who donate their time and efforts to make it all work and to help it continue to grow and thrive.”

The four day event will welcome several returning acts as well as many first time performers from across Canada including several from the east coast. In addition to musical performances, this year’s Living Roots lineup also includes a writer’s showcase with poets, authors and storytellers, a weekend yoga class and an arts market.

“You will see some familiar names on the list of artists,” said Young. “Some of these acts are welcome to play every year as long as they want because they truly represent and embrace what we are all about. One of the regular performers has decided to bring his parents out east from Ontario because he loves it so much and wants to share the incredible experience.

“I am very proud of what we have put together for this year’s festival and am very grateful for the support of my outstanding organizing committee,” said Young. “We feel it is a great balance of local and traveling acts, and spans a wide variety of genres.”
