It’s been more than a year since Greber have toured the province. Their last visit was back in May of 2016 in support of their split 7” with Anthesis, the first release from the New Brunswick-based record label Ancient Temple Recordings.

In advance of the February 2 release date, Greber have shared the album’s enormously heavy opening track, Backhanded Interest.

Backhanded Interest is a great showcase of themes we touch on both lyrically and musically throughout the album,” said drummer Steve Vargas. “We’re always working with the dynamics of just bass and drums and this song is as crushing as it is just a great song in my opinion. Marc’s riffs rule and it’s always so much fun to get creative with my drum approach. When we sat down to figure out the first ‘single,’ it was an easy choice to choose this one.”

Vargas and bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon formed Greber in 2008 and have released two full-length albums and three split 7”singles. Cemetery Preston, the band’s third full-length, is a combined effort involving support from four record labels.

The album also has a strong east coast connection. Anthesis guitarist/Ancient Temple Recordings co-founder Scott Miller mixed the album’s nine tracks at his Quispamsis recording studio.

“I’ve known the Greber guys for about 11 years, since they were playing in Tugnut along with Joe Egan of Egan Guitars,” said Ancient Temple’s Scott Miller, who also mixed the album. “They really made an impact on me with their work ethic, positivity and friendliness when we first met. We’ve kept in touch since then and played lots of shows together throughout those years. The moment I heard these new songs I knew it was the best material they’d done yet. Very focused and very aware of what works in the setting of drums, bass and vocals.”

Cemetery Preston will officially be released February 2 with Ancient Temple Recordings and D7i Records handling the vinyl release. The album will also be available on cassette through Hibernation Release, on CD via Pink Lemonade Records and digitally through Bandcamp.

Greber begin a 10 date tour on February 1 in Ottawa before heading east for dates in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton and Halifax.
