Fredericton to host Theatre Conference in October

The Atlantic Edge Conference invites theatre creators to hone their professional edge through workshops and readings.

Registration is now open for the Playwrights Guild of Canada’s Atlantic Edge Conference,happening October 5-6 in Fredericton at the Alumni Memorial Building on the UNB campus.

Featuring an accomplished roster of facilitators, this conference brings together theatre creators and enthusiasts for 2-days of empowering professional development programming and a free evening readings cabaret at The Tipsy Muse Café.

On Saturday, October 5, Globus Theatre GM Monique Renaud will explore The Story in Niche Marketing, and how to bring one’s personal story to their promotional strategy. Lawyer and theatre maker Jasmine Spei will follow with a Contract Negotiations workshop, designed to empower program attendees with the skills and outlook for successful and mutually beneficial contract negotiation.  University of New Brunswick drama professor and playwright Len Falkenstein will steward a Creator Exchange in which participants will role-play around specific career challenges to uncover new solutions and insight among their peers.

The Spotlight Atlantic Readings Cabaret takes place Saturday evening with short play readings by featured playwrights Shauntay Grant, Juanita Peters, Sara Tilley, Ryan Griffith, Malcolm Murray, and John Spurway, followed by an informal, catered social. This event is free and open to the public.

On Sunday, October 6, Wolastoqiyik multidisciplinary artist Natalie Sappier will lead participants on a Land & Water Walk to discover the creative ecology of Wolastoqiyik territory. For the conference finale, Director of Halifax Theatre for Young People, Tessa Mendel will moderate the Shared Room, Shared Vision roundtable, an exploration of the challenges and opportunities in relationships between theatre creators, featuring Neptune Theatre AD Jeremy Webb, PARC Dramaturge Pamela Halstead, and Playwright Andrea Scott.
