Five Shows to See This Weekend

Category: music 102

You can’t do it all, but it’s sure fun to try. Here’s a look at five upcoming shows happening this weekend in Fredericton. There’s a little something for everyone.

Matt Carter

Jason Anderson at The Tipsy Muse Café | Friday July 22 | 7 p.m. | View Event

If you haven’t caught a performance by Jason Anderson you’re really missing out. Since arriving in Fredericton a few years ago Jason has established himself as one of the city’s most entertaining, thoughtful and truly remarkable songwriters and performers. With decades of music making under his belt, dozens of releases, and one of the most approachable, down-to-earth personalities you could ever hope to meet, Jason is a gem on all fronts. If you’re into singer songwriters (and really, who isn’t?) this guy is a must-see. Plus, he’s releasing a new EP on Friday!

Red Usurper + Cavedweller + Swarm of Pestilence at The Cap | Friday July 22 | Doors 8:30 p.m. = show 9 p.m. | View Event

Ready to get heavy? Metaphorically? Sonically? Are you looking to be pummeled by blasting beats and drop-tuned axes? You will find your fix this Friday at The Cap when Red Usurper (Saint John), Cavedweller (Fredericton) and Swarm of Pestilence (Saint John) hit the stage. It’s not often Fredericton gets treated to a three band lineup of this crushing magnitude. Circle pit? Wall of death? Probably not, but it should be a fun night anyway.

Blaire Nicolle + Kristen Martell at Grimross Brewing Co. | Friday July 22 | Doors at 7 p.m. – show at 8 p.m. | View Event

What happens when a New Brunswick singer songwriter teams up with a Nova Scotia based acoustic folk/pop ECMA nominee for a night of music? We don’t know either! But the answer will be waiting for us all this Friday at Grimross. Blaire Nicolle will be joined on stage by her husband Jon and Fredericton’s own Colin Fowlie. Kristen has a new single out (and a remix!) produced by Gabrielle Papillon. Should be a big night.

Logan Richard + Absolute Losers + Digital Circus at The Cap | Saturday July 23 | Doors 8:30 p.m. = show 9 p.m. | View Event

Logan Richard, his band, and fellow islanders Absolute Losers (great band name) will be making the trek all the way from the red rocks of PEI to play in our beautiful city this weekend with local electro-rockers Digital Circus. Richard will be bringing his full band with him. Check out their 2022 release, Live at the Trailside to see why you won’t want to miss this show. Smooth rockin’ goodness offset by a little electro-dance action and some island dwelling losers. Now that’s a Saturday!

Ria Mae + Qwinn + more at The Tannery | Sunday July 24 | 7 p.m. | View Event

A show on a Sunday? A potentially fantastic show on a Sunday? OUTDOORS?!? Yup. The Tannery Series is produced in partnership with The Cap, Dolan’s Pub, Klub Khrome and Downtown Fredericton. Frederictonians love their outdoor music. And with Officer’s Square out of commission for the foreseeable future, The Tannery is THE PLACE so quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger for live music under the sun. Plus, Jack’s Pizza is just sooo close by. Enjoy performances by Halifax-based songwriting sensation Ria Mae, Fredericton’s own QWINN and a host of special guests. Just try and sit still for this one.
