Carter Chase, a graphic design student at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and ceramist Craig Schneider will share the Fredericton Arts Alliance residency at the Soldiers’ Barracks July 4-10.

Carter Chase is working on a piece that explores this summer’s theme of New Ground (thinking about new places in relation to one’s home) with fine-detailed ink work. He is reflecting on the paths he has taken in his life that led him to becoming a stronger person. His artwork is very intricate and visitors love to watch him fill in the tiny details.

Craig Schneider is an established artist, having more than 40 years of studio practice and experience. He created the ceramic wall mural entitled Wolastokuk – The Spirit of the Land, which is installed on the second floor of the Fredericton Convention Centre. He holds a BFA with a major in metal and ceramic sculpture from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, as well as several diplomas and certificates. He creates sculptural-based work exploring the human condition.

This week, Schneider plans to work with plaster moulds, clay and mixed media on several house-based series. He is also developing a second series having to do with quills. Keeping with the theme of New Ground, the artist’s house-based idea is an exploration of what people project onto the concept of ‘home.’ He would like to look into past and present ideas of the home and to research family history.

Stop by the casemate at the Soldiers’ Barracks in the Historic Garrison District on any day of the week. The doors are open Monday – Saturday from 10am – 5pm and Sunday from 12pm – 5pm. The Fredericton Arts Alliance is grateful for financial support from the City of Fredericton in making these residencies possible.
