David in the Dark selected to record new music with Converse Rubber Tracks Boston.
After an impressive year that saw the band release their first full-length album, Fire, open for Halifax musician Matt Mays on his East Coast tour and join an exciting roster of acts as part of the 2016 Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, it only makes sense that the group are now prepping to head to Boston to record some new music at a recording studio operated by a sneaker company. It seems anything is possible where David in the Dark are concerned.
Converse Rubber Tracks Boston is one of the many community-based professional recording studios owned by the popular shoe company.
“As an emerging artist, you can apply to go to one of their studios and do some tracking for free,” said the band’s Jane Blanchard. “The application process is pretty simple and free. We applied a few months ago and heard back a few days ago that we had been accepted into the program.”
Besides a nice trip out of town and an opportunity to record some new music, the band will get to work with engineer Sean Cahalin (Jamie Foxx, Dropkick Murphys, Rose Cousins) and can use the resulting tracks as they see fit.
“It’s a super great opportunity as you get professional studio time for free, and still own the rights to all the material produced,” said Blanchard. “The studio is stacked with gear, which means we won’t need to transport much over the border. They also have some video and photo sessions available. We are super excited!”
With a recording session scheduled for later next week, the band now join the program’s impressive roster of acts that includes Quicksand, United Nations and several others.
