Feels Good Community launch bike-a-thon to raise funds for non-profits focused on Intimate Partner Violence.
(Fredericton, NB) During this time of global crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most pressing social consequences is the increased risks of violence against women. The World Health Organization reports that social isolation, loss of income, and stress caused by COVID-19 intensifies violence against women, and the loss of social protections – such as crisis centres and shelters – makes seeking resources increasingly difficult.
In a call to action, Feels Good Community is organizing “Cycle to Break the Cycle”, a virtual bike-a-thon to raise funds for New Brunswick non-profits focused on Intimate Partner Violence. The goal is to raise $100,000 with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the organizations in need, while increasing awareness on this pressing issue. The bike-a-thon will take place over a 2-week period, with in-person and virtual routes available for participants across the country. Cyclists gather pledges per km (or pay a registration fee), and through the Strava app, report routes and total distances cycled. Cyclists that reach a $300 pledge will be entered to win a variety of prizes from Fredericton businesses and NB music and arts festivals.
The bike-a-thon will take place between June 8-22, with a variety of routes available for all abilities. To register a cyclist or team, follow this link: shorturl.at/cgIL5
