Just who is the Blank Canvas Bandit, and what does he want with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery? Guests will crack the case and find out at a special, one-night-only murder mystery fundraiser event happening at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery on October 1st.

At this event, participants will join an eccentric cast of characters as they uncover the mystery and unravel the threads in this humorous, off-the-wall, and tongue-in-cheek look at the world of the visual arts and characters that inhabit it.

This unique performance event is presented by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, hosting the evening and setting the stage, and Theatre New Brunswick, who have created the characters and the story for this theatrical performance. Attendees will not only be the audience watching the story, but will also have the opportunity to add their sleuthing skills to it.

“We are thrilled to be organizing and hosting this Murder Mystery evening at the Gallery,” said Kathryn Dimock, development associate in charge of membership and events at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. “We expect it to be a night to remember, and a very different way of experiencing the Gallery. It will be an immersive performance, where our guests can experience night of fun, humour, and good storytelling—and, of course, visual art—like no other.

This special event is limited to 200 tickets. Ticket holders will be divided into four groups, as they move through the Gallery, interacting with the characters and the story while surrounded by works of art. The event will also include a silent auction featuring a variety of experiences and items to bid on, including some hard-to-find ones like a Picaroons Traditional Ales brewery tour, and much more.

“What an amazing project and collaboration this has been between the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and Theatre New Brunswick,” said TNB Artistic Director Thomas Morgan Jones.  “It’s so inspirational to be able to create a play specifically for that beautiful space, and one that allows the audience, each audience member, to have a completely unique experience.  We’ve been rolling with laughter in rehearsals, and also enjoying entering into conversations about what makes art, art.  We look forward to sharing the work with this limited public on October 1st!”

Tickets are $65 each, and include a complimentary beverage as well as a selection of appetizers and sweets. Funds raised during this event will help support the Gallery’s programming, including in-Gallery and outreach art programs for youth. The event will run from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
